The History of Big Red

The 1937 International fire truck is a 100% operational fire aparatus with 350 gallons of on board water. Big Red was originally in service with the Danville, Ky. Fire Dept. Measuring nearly 40 ft in length, 12 ft 4 in wide and 11 ft 9 and 1/2 inches tall, this "Big Red Monster" weighs in at 35,000 lbs. Unlike most other retired fire engines however, this one was turned into a monster truck powered by Cummins Diesel Engines.

This monster has already broken several Guinness World Records including the world's heaviest and longest monster truck.

Recently it sold at the Palm Beach Barret-Jackson auction to local businessmen Dan & Jon Shaw of Shaw Brothers Construction. Now obviously this isn't a traditionally practical vehicle, but for sheer pounds of awesome-to-dollar value, it was a real steal, said Mark Arnold of Jalopnik.com, a car enthusiast website.

“I had my eyes on it all weekend and kept thinking that it was an odd vehicle to be selling at what is typically a high-end collector’s auction”, said Shaw. “The more I kept thinking about how it could support local children’s charities the more intrigued I became.” Shaw, a member of Camp Sunshine’s board of directors knew it could not only be a great fundraising tool, but a lot of fun as well for the camp.
